What do Scouts do?

Scouts take part in a wide variety of activities, from abseiling to zorbing.

The aim of Scouting is to develop young people to their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential. We achieve this by delivering a Balanced Programme. This programme helps us to find out about the world in which we live, encourages us to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit, and helps develop our creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore our own values and personal attitudes.

Being outdoors is important in Scouts, and a large part of our programme is in traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, hiking, map reading, survival skills and cooking.

There are a huge number of badges and awards in Scouts, and we are constantly working towards one badge or another. There are also a whole lot of badges which Scouts can work towards in their own time; the most determined Scout can easily have an armful within a year! See what we're doing here!

A group of Scouts aged between 10½ and 14 are called a Troop. Within this Troop there are smaller groups called Patrols, each headed by a Patrol Leader and supported by an Assistant Patrol Leader.

Scouts have both a Promise and a Law:

The Scout Promise

On my honour, I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the Queen,
To help other people
And to keep the Scout Law

The Scout Law

  1. A Scout is to be trusted.

  2. A Scout is loyal.

  3. A Scout is friendly and considerate.

  4. A Scout belongs to the worldwide family of Scouts.

  5. A Scout has courage in all difficulties.

  6. A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property.

  7. A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.

Chief Scout Gold Award

The highest award in Scouts is the Chief Scout Gold award. This represents hard work and achievement across a number of different areas.

We look forwards to awarding these in the future, as our Scouts complete this massive achievement.

Scouts

Look up adventure in the dictionary and you’ll find Scouts abseiling off the page. We’re the original mud splattered, outdoor adventurers and we’re still going strong. If you’re aged 10 to 14 and enjoy trying new activities, learning skills and making friends, you’ll like what we do.

Scouts at 23rd Manchester

At 23rd Manchester, our Scout Leader is Sideeq, and his Assistant Scout Leader is Beth. Our Group Scout Leader is Neil.

Our Patrols are Wolf and Stag.

Scouts meet every Tuesday at Birchfield Community Centre from 7.30 pm – 9.15 pm.
